Privacy Policy — Fluent CW

This Privacy Policy describes how Deep Sea Developers ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the mobile application Fluent CW (the "App"), available on Google Play.

If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the App.

Summary

The App has no backend of ours and no accounts, and all training works offline. We show no advertising. Two Google services collect limited, non-identifying data on our behalf: Firebase Analytics (anonymous usage statistics such as how many drills are run and at what level) and Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports). Google Play Billing processes the one-time unlock if you buy it. None of these receive your name, e-mail, callsign or training answers.

1. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The App saves your training data in your device's local storage (Android SharedPreferences). This includes:

Your Koch level and which characters you have unlocked.
Your practice history: how often each character was sent, and which character you reported hearing each time.
Your settings (speeds, sidetone pitch, keying envelope, session length).
Your in-app purchase entitlement, if you have bought the unlock.
Your daily reminder setting and time, if you turn the reminder on.

This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. Uninstalling the App or clearing its storage deletes it permanently — we cannot recover it for you.

The App includes an export feature that copies your progress to your clipboard as plain text, so you can move it to another device yourself. That text goes wherever you paste it; the App does not send it anywhere.

2. Information Collected by Third Parties

Google Play Billing (in-app purchases)

If you buy the one-time unlock, the purchase is processed by Google Play. Google collects and stores billing information (payment method, purchase history, tax records). We do not see, store, or have access to your payment details. We receive only a confirmation that the purchase succeeded and the product identifier, which we use to enable the unlock on your device.

If you never make a purchase, no third party receives any information from the App.

Firebase Analytics (usage statistics)

We use Firebase Analytics, a Google service, to understand how the App is used in aggregate. It may collect:

A randomly generated app-instance identifier, not tied to your name, e-mail or Google Account.
Device information (model, operating system version, language) and a coarse, IP-derived region (country level).
App interaction events: screens viewed; when a drill starts and ends, with its Koch level, character count, speed settings, number correct and median response time; when a level is unlocked; when the paywall is viewed and whether a purchase started, completed, failed or was restored; whether the reminder is on.

Events carry no free text, no callsign, and never the individual characters you answered — your confusion history stays on your device. We use this data to decide what to build and fix next.

You can limit personalised analytics via your device's Google settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads).

Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports)

We use Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service, to be told when the App crashes. On a crash it may collect a stack trace, device information (model, OS version, free memory) and a randomly generated installation identifier. We use this only to find and fix bugs.

Daily reminder (local notification)

If you turn on the practice reminder, the App schedules a notification on your device at the time you choose. This uses no network and sends nothing to us or anyone else. The App asks for notification permission only when you enable it.

No advertising

The App contains no advertising SDK and shows no ads.

3. What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect:

Your name, email address, callsign, phone number, or any account information.
Precise location. (Firebase derives a country-level region from IP address; we do not receive anything finer.)
Contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or other sensitive device data.
Your individual training answers or confusion history — these never leave your device.

The only runtime permission the App may request is notifications, and only if you turn the daily reminder on.

4. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. In the Google Play Store, the App's target audience is set to 13 years of age or older.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. If you have concerns, please contact us at the email below.

5. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, disclosed, or sold; to request deletion; to opt out of sale or sharing; and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

We do not sell or share personal information. The analytics and crash data described in Section 2 is collected by Google as our service provider and is not sold. Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict processing, object to processing, and request portability of your personal data.

The analytics and crash data we receive is pseudonymous (a random app-instance identifier, no name or account). To have it deleted, e-mail us at the address below; deletion is done through Firebase's user-deletion facility. Requests relating to purchases should be directed to Google, which is the controller of data collected by Google Play Billing: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Your training data is stored only on your own device and is under your control; you can erase it at any time from within the App ("Reset all progress") or by uninstalling.

7. Data Retention

Locally stored training data remains on your device until you reset it in the App, clear the App's storage, or uninstall. Firebase Analytics event data is retained by Google for the period configured on our project (at most 14 months) and Crashlytics data for 90 days; Google Play Billing retains purchase data under Google's own policies, linked in Section 2.

8. Security

We operate no servers of our own; the analytics and crash data described above is held by Google under its security practices. Your progress and purchase entitlement are stored using Android's standard application-private storage. No system is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security of data on any device.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective date" at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes indicates your acceptance of the revised Policy.
